At Vero Pilates, we believe in celebrating not just physical progress—but the spirit, dedication, and energy that each person brings to our studio. This month, we’re proud to honor Laurel Richmond as our Member of the Month!
Finding Pilates For Post Surgery Rehab
Laurel joined Vero over three years ago, shortly after undergoing back surgery that left her with fused vertebrae and some lingering neuropathy in her feet. Knowing she needed more than just physical therapy, she decided it was time for something new—something empowering. She found her way to Vero Pilates, and in her words, she found her “Pilates home.”

The Results of Laurel's Consistent Pilates Practice
Right away, Laurel committed to showing up—twice a week, every week. And with her signature drive and positivity, she got to work. Her goal at the beginning was simple but powerful: strengthen her core, regain mobility, and feel confident in her body again. Over time, she crushed her first milestone—sitting up from lying down without using her arms. Her next challenge? Rebuilding calf strength lost during her injury. Today, she proudly performs calf raises on her own, without props or assistance. Her progress is undeniable.
Finding Community and Support at Vero Pilates
But Laurel's journey is about more than physical strength. She's an integral part of our Vero community—someone who brings warmth, curiosity, and joy to every class. As a faculty member in the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies at CSU Long Beach, Laurel teaches future recreation professionals how to design inclusive, meaningful experiences. It’s no surprise that she brings that same passion and care into the studio.

Laurel’s movement practice extends beyond Pilates. She enjoys long walks, lap swimming, beach time, and Wunderball classes. And she sees the benefits of Pilates in her daily life—from reaching for something while in bed, to twisting in the car, to walking tall with strong posture.
What drew her to Vero wasn’t just the quality of instruction—it was the sense of belonging. “Everyone knows your name,” she says. “The staff truly care not only about your Pilates experience, but about you as a person.”
Laurel, we see you, we celebrate you, and we’re so lucky to have you in our Vero family. Thank you for your consistency, your courage, and your ever-inspiring spirit.
