As a newcomer to Pilates, our studio member Nisha Varghese has already started reaping the benefits of a consistent Pilates practice in her life. Nisha is a busy full time working mom who also juggles her daughter’s busy schedule of activities. Pilates has become a central piece of her self-care routine. Read on to find out more!
Find out how local Long Beach mom Roberta Jeannette juggles work and home life while making time for her self-care needs, especially Pilates! How has a consistent Pilates practice supported you in your role as a mother?
It gives me an excuse to take time for myself. Although, but I’ve never been one to not take time for myself. I think of it for my health – physically and mentally. If mom isn’t healthy, the family is going to suffer. And frankly, I don’t like taking care of people if I’m not feeling good. My mood is better after a pilates session.
Find out how Pilates supports the busy life of Darya Rose. What does her daily juggle look like? What goals was she wanting to achieve with her Pilates practice?
Darya Rose is a busy working mom with 2.5 and 3.5 year old girls who have been mostly at home these past years due to COVID (one is finally starting pre-school this year!). How does she feel about her regular Pilates practice? She shared her thoughts with us.
Pilates is a dynamic movement practice. This means that we do not hold stretches for long moments of time during a session. Rather, stretches are incorporated into every movement sequence dynamically. In Pilates strengthening exercises are paired with lengthening exercises that help the muscle extend to its full range. Over time you notice that not only are you getting stronger, but you are also less “tight”.
Friends have a unique way of knowing how to support us. They are aware of the joys and struggles we experience in our lives. Good friends know how to show up for each other in times of difficulty. Through our professional experience as movement instructors we have seen how members who work out with their friends have benefited from having each other’s support.
You love hiking out in nature, but your feet get really achey, your ankles are weak, or your quads and hip flexors are burning by the end. Pilates can help you with all of that and so much more! Read how pilates exercises target the exact areas of your body that can make you a strong and agile hiker.
Pilates has been a literal lifeline for me in many situations I’ve navigated in life and the same was true when I became a mom. A consistent pilates practice before becoming pregnant and then during pregnancy prepared my body to endure labor and birthing. The abdominal rehab work helps you reconnect your center. The upper body work helps you cope better with the stress and strain of feeding. The standing work helps strengthen your hips and glutes so that you can hold your baby. So many benefits! Pilates is a very grounding form of exercise that helps you focus on creating movement from the inside out. There is a power to the flow and precision of pilates that allows you to tap into a sense of internal organization.
