New Year Pilates Resolutions
Let’s be honest. Setting specific quantifiable goals in a time of great uncertainty and after experiencing a year of unexpected twists and turns seems virtually impossible. Figuring out what the next week will look like, let alone the next months, can feel like an overwhelming thought. Perhaps it’s time to approach the idea of new year’s resolutions with a new perspective.
Setting Intentions Instead of Goals
When we set an intention instead of a specific quantifiable goal it allows us more flexibility to maneuver our daily activities. Let me explain. Rather than saying, “This week I will completely stop having my evening wine.”, we could instead reframe that and say, “This week I will work on improving my evening self-care routine.” For me personally this makes me feel like I can still choose to enjoy a glass of wine if I like, but I also have to make sure that my over all evening routine is a reflection of the intention I’ve set. So perhaps I have to also make sure I reduce my amount of screen time before bed, or listen to a calming recording, or read a book I’ve been wanting to get into.
Setting Intentions Regarding Our Health
What are some intentions you’d like to create around your health and well-being as you move into 2021? Are you looking to manage your stress better? Are you determined to address the aches and pains you’ve been experiencing? Are you looking to learn how to nourish your body and mind better? Do you want to get strong and feel confident in the beautiful body you’ve been gifted in this life? These are all worthwhile endeavors.
How To Transform Intentions Into Action
Sometimes though we need support to turn our intentions into action that can have a real impact on our well-being. For example, we may say that we have the intention of addressing our issues with depression or anxiety. However, we may need the help of a professional therapist or doctor to help us treat our mental health.
The same is true for physical fitness. We may have the best intentions set for ourselves in terms of moving our bodies more, hydrating more, and nourishing our bodies better, but with all of life’s stressors that distract us, we can find ourselves floundering and unable to take real meaningful action to benefit ourselves.
If this is true for you, it may be time to consider hiring the support of an expert and experienced Pilates instructor who can support and coach you. An experienced Pilates instructor can help identify roadblocks that may be hindering your progress, help you find the right tools to overcome your challenges, and set you on the path towards true physical fitness and well-being.
