Time Is Valuable & Life Is Precious

Today I want to share some personal thoughts on the value of perseverance and persistence in overcoming our challenges.

I took this picture this morning while on my jog. It was 32F outside and it seemed I was the only one who had decided to brave the weather to get my outdoor cardio in. If you had told me three years ago that I’d be craving my morning jogs so much that I’d be willing to go out in freezing weather I’d have told you that something was definitely off! This is where perseverance and persistence kick in.

Time and Goal Setting

Approximately three years ago I decided I needed to work on improving my cardio. I knew that due to time constraints and physical ability I was going to need plenty of time to reach my goal. I decided that rather than set a specific time limit to the pursuit of my goal, I was simply going to go step by step, one day at a time. During this time I have explored the elliptical, treadmill, dance classes, ballet, and Yogalates classes, in addition of course to upping my flow and resistance in Pilates. I have enjoyed every single one of my workouts. The amount of time it took for me to get comfortable jogging outside wasn’t as important to me as feeling my body slowly adjust over time as my strength and endurance improved.

Challenges and Stress

If you and I have met personally, you may know that in recent years I have been through a lot of loss and trauma. I have lost both of my parents to illness, survived the traumatic birth of my son, and stood by my husband’s side as he battled colon cancer. And now we are all dealing with the challenges and stress that the pandemic has added to our realities. As a small business owner and mom this has meant juggling all of my responsibilities like crazy. It has also challenged me in terms of reaffirming my own self-care routine.

Take Control Of Your Schedule

I have worked incredibly hard to not allow the pandemic to take complete control of my schedule by pushing my wellness to the side. From personal experience I know the incredible VALUE of taking care of my health physically, mentally, and emotionally. I battle depression and anxiety. I know that I cannot afford to sideline my personal care. So no matter what, I find the time to make it happen. At the start of the week I look at my schedule and I block off specific times for my workouts. I let my husband know what my plans are so he can support me if I need help with certain errands or chores in order to accomplish my goals. And then I hold myself accountable for those workouts. Because at the end of the day, perseverance and persistence pay off!
